A stunning performance by Afghanistan’s spinners led to an emotional 18-run victory over Pakistan in Sharjah. This win comes as a powerful source of resilience for Afghanistan, as a recent earthquake has tragically taken the lives of more than 1,400 people at home.

The foundation of Afghanistan’s innings was a remarkable 113-run second-wicket partnership between Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal, who scored 65 and 64, respectively. This was the sole pillar of their batting performance, as no other batter reached double digits. Pakistan’s bowlers, especially the economical Saim Ayub and sensational Faheem Ashraf, managed to contain Afghanistan’s scoring, leaving them with a target of 170 in challenging, dewy conditions.
However, the dew proved no match for Afghanistan’s formidable spin attack. Fazalhaq Farooqi set the tone early by dismissing Saim Ayub for a golden duck, followed by Sahibzada Farhan. This opened the door for Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Mohammad Nabi to take complete control. The trio’s masterful bowling left Pakistan’s batters bewildered, as they struggled to read the spin or take risks against the attack.
The spinners collectively claimed six wickets, causing a dramatic collapse that saw Pakistan lose 7 for 49, slumping to 111 for 9. While Pakistan faced a potential landslide defeat, a spirited cameo from Haris Rauf, who scored an unbeaten 34 off 16 balls, helped them reach a more respectable score of 151, making the final result appear closer than the match truly was.
